Traditionally, lump sum payments were the way to go but it was found that businesses as well as individuals were unable to pay such payment upfront. The structured settlement lump sum payment was replaced with the option of a court ruling for settlement annuities. This insured that unnecessary cases were not found in the courts again clogging up the system. The courts could have a payment plan in place and not have to deal with cases being put back in courts because a company or person could not pay a lump sum.

This brings us to the issue of buying and selling settlements. There have been companies instituted that will buy up settlement annuities and give the customer a lump sum payment. This is often useful for those who have large payments they need to make after such things as a death or family tragedy. This also prevents people from going into debt in hard times. People can sell their annuities for a small price and gain a lump sum upfront. And the great thing is, there are different types of buyers who will give different deals, features and types of payments for each individual's personal needs.

In order to choose a proper buyer, you will probably want to determine the best features for your needs. After you determine the features you desire, make sure you eliminate the companies who do not have these features. Also, determine a price that fits your budget and eliminate the high priced companies. Make sure you choose a company based on high customer service performance so you know you will have excellent care if you need it or if anything goes wrong. After all is said and done, a lump sum payment might just be what you need to keep your life in order in the mix of a crazy world. The world is too tough to be stuck in a financial rut and no one likes to be in debt. If you can, you may just want to find a structured settlement lump sum buyer for your annuities!
